About the Artist
David Hlebo, an L.A. native began his musical journey in early years of Elementary School. By the time he entered into High school he had the priviledge of playing lead alto in the jazz band and the honor of performing at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Since then David has played with many varied artists such as B.J. Thomas, Andre Crouch, Connie Francis,The Coasters and more recently has toured with the L.A. based (Dreamworks) "Eels". David has shared the stage with Peter Gabriel, Moby & Nine Inch Nails and has performed numerous spots for the B.B.C. London (Both live & recorded T.V.) and on "The David Letterman Show". His love for the past & present giants in jazz (Henderson, Cannonball, Coltrane, Scofield,Brecker, Chris Potter and many others) reveal David's desire to compose music that is contemporary yet requires one to use their mind & listen deep...

Product Description
In a world that seeks to classify and categorize, there are some things that defy definition. David Hlebo and his music are two of these things. I group the person with the music only because you really can¹t separate the two. If you listen to his music you have insight into the man, and if you get to know the man, you also find a doorway into his music. Whether discussing politics or philosophy, music or theology, David never fails to have an interesting angle and will more than likely say something that you hadn't thought of before. His musical compositions embody that same persona. In his surprisingly Spartan studio that he has dubbed "the laboratory" he builds his creations from musical experience, computer experimentation, and pure creativity. It seems that his tunes are never done, they just escape. Whether the inspiration comes from his beloved family, or a processed meat product, each track is filled with the life and uniqueness that is David. David's unique blending of musical technology with performances by talented human beings is rare in this era of cookie-cutter pop music. His vibe is retro and lo-fi, but somehow that's what makes it totally fresh and modern. He always seeks to challenge and educate the listener, but in a way that is neither intimidating nor condescending. After listening to any of his compositions, I always feel like "What did I just hear?" That question is immediately answered by "I don't know but I want to hear it again!!" While I'm sure that none of us could survive in that world of David Hlebo's mind for very long, I know that we could all benefit by a visit there from time to time.
