<"b0000009ym5228"> From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD
Northern California harmonica players Charlie Baty and Rick Estrin joined forces in 1976, the former switching over to guitar as they fine-tuned an ensemble sound indebted to Chicago and jump blues styles, swing-bebop jazz, country and western, and rockabilly. At long last, in 1987, the quartet broke out on the national scene with this entertaining, intelligent, and promising debut. On the debit side, Estrin's affected singing on witty and frisky originals takes getting used to, and the studio inhibits all four Nightcats. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993
