All Kinds of Blues

Solo Slim from 1961, presumably just before his emigration to Paris. He sings with the clarity and easeful movement of a mountain stream, his fingers travel the piano keys insistently if not always accurately, and his sexual metaphors (notably in "Churnin' Man Blues") join his homespun insights (try "Mother Earth") in holding out pleasure to the listener-at the time collegians and the city-dwelling folk cognoscenti. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993
