<"b0006vy3z62999"> About the Artist
Red Rooster was formed in the fall of 1998 in New York City. Since then we have been playing some of New York's best known and historic venues, including the Bitter End, The Cutting Room, Elbow Room, The Back Fence, Fez, Shine, Tonic, Hank's Saloon, the C-Note, The Parkside Lounge, Bagatelle, and The Frying Pan as well as Connecticut College and various private engagements. We try and bring a unique blend of acoustic folk and blues, rock n' roll and (now) hip-hop/electronica to the stage that can have a person on their feet and hoppin' around one minute and sitting back in a contemplative mood the next. Their music tells stories that grow out of the rich historical and cultural landscape that is America; from Appalachia to the Delta to destinations unknown. One might say that their music falls under the category, "Americana."

Red Rooster is proud to announce the 20-track release of "Dose," an exciting new, double-disk adventure that will bring you months, if not years, of listening pleasure.

When we began to think about what direction we wanted to take this album, one of the ideas that emerged was to record two versions of each song. Though doubling the workload seemed daunting, we began to lay down some guidelines. On the first disc, we took advantage of every modern tool at our disposal, from amplifiers and distortion pedals to samples and computers. For the second disc, we stripped down to our acoustic instruments and natural sounds that could be captured only with a microphone. We also explored alternate melodies, lyrics, chord structures, tempos, and time signatures and started wondering: What makes a song a song? How far can you stretch a song while still keeping its essence–the thread of the song–intact? How do the differences change meaning? We’re not sure we answered any of these questions, but we had a great time asking them.

While the above might sound either a little music-geeky, ridiculous, or just plain geeky; you will not be disappointed by the album. Above all, we focused on the music being plain kick-ass and made sure each disk and each song would stand on its own.

Dose, Music, Red Rooster, A little RL Burnside, a pinch Bob Schneider, some Willie Nelson, a tad of Seldom Scene, and a spoonful of Greg Brown and presto - there you have it some soulful blues-folk-hiphop-rock
