Overall expert musicianship make this a very tight group. The tunes are written with great originality. Leanne Travelayan sings with a natural unpretentious style (a la Bessie Smith) and she expresses emotion and intesity in a way that is very refreshing. Billy Stoops vocals come across wtih great depth and grittiness. His guitar licks are divine. Barbra Blue lays down a very solid and exciting bassline throughout and Chris Leighton, well, it's hard to find a more accomplished inventive drummer anywhere. Sue Orfield and Randy Oxford add just the right amount of horns. Washboard Highway is a delightful offering that draws the listener in with its rare mix of blues tyles. It's obvious these musicians take their music seriously, but they make their music fun. This is a bright and shining body of work.

Although the group is a solid part of the local blues scene in the Northwest, the music is definately coloring outside the lines that most would associate with the blues - a tribute both to these musicians and the scene for being broadminded enough to accept this fun, loosely blues based music.
