Little known outside collector circles, the Blue Rock label was Chicago-based Mercury Records' foray into the '60s soul market. Unsurprisingly, a fair number of the sides collected on this double-disc retrospective echo Chi-town styles popularized by Curtis Mayfield and other local producers and writers. Still, surprises abound, not the least of which is the Southern-fried original version of "Mustang Sally" by its author, Sir Mack Rice. Big names past their hit-making prime (the Shirelles), before it (the Chi-Lites), and in experimental phases (bluesmen Junior Wells and Junior Parker) get lots of play here, as do unjustly obscure singers like Otis Leavill, Tony Diamond, and Dizzy Jones. Lost and Found offers few works of genius, but it's an entertaining, enlightening ride throughout. --Rickey Wright
