Jon Shain's latest CD, Home Before Long, was produced by Dave Mattacks and Tom Dube (both are long-time musical associates of Richard Thompson). The album picks up where Shain's critically acclaimed CD, No Tag, No Tail Light left off - on a firm Americana footing, based in country blues finger-picking guitar and story songs filled with colorful characters.

The production is more adventurous than last time, with a variety of sonic colors surrounding the folk instrumentation, and Shain and company are in fine form, giving their best performances yet recorded. The tunes range from love-lorn ballads to rollicking throwdowns, with some mystical folk-rock and historical perspectives thrown in for good measure. A diverse and highly entertaining set of songs.
