Ever since his salad days with the Butterfield Blues Band, Elvin Bishop has been cranking out some of the best guitar around. Bishop has never been one to brood; his blues celebrates life. This, his fourth release on Alligator Records, is no exception. Even a song about love gone sour like "I'm Gone" is done with a gleam in the eye, not to mention some tough slide guitar from Bishop. He playfully promotes the virtues of the "Middle Aged Man." And how about "The Skin They're In?" Here's a tune that should be required listening for everyone. Elvin wants us all to get along, and with music like this he can't help but make us all feel better about ourselves. --Lars Gandil

Elvin Bishop plays blues in his own delightfully loose fashion, without sacrificing his rough-edged guitar playing and signature good-time themes.
