Editorial Reviews
<"b0000014q15228"> From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD
This album, first designated for West German consumers in 1980, positions ten tightly arranged recordings from 1963 to 1964 next to concert tracks recorded just before Sam's passing in late 1969. On the early work, songs fade prematurely and an unidentified organist tends to be obtrusive; no matter, Sam still triumphs, his power and exuberance imploding listeners' skulls without losing anything in nuance. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993
