Why Eddie Kirkland isn't better known is one of the great mysteries of the blues. He's got all the requisite ingredients: a distinctive, expressive voice, massive guitar technique (including an awesome hand on the slide), and strong material. He's also got plenty of cred, having recorded with John Lee Hooker and done time in Otis Redding's touring band. The Complete Trix Recordings consists of two albums, Front and Center and The Devil and Other Blues Demons, that are no longer available--an even better reason to pick this up. "This" is topnotch acoustic blues that defies categorization; it's got tastes of Delta, Piedmont, and Detroit, with a bottleneck guitar that would impress even Elmore James. Simply put, Eddie Kirkland rocks, and you must hear him immediately. --Genevieve Williams
