An aural souvenir for admirers of the Broadway play that was based on a Zora Neale Hurston short story. The poetry of Langston Hughes graces nearly all of Mahal's specially written country blues songs, which really do need the visuals and a narrative context. The three-act play Mule Bone, a collaboration between Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes based upon Hurston's story The Bone of Contention, went unpublished and unproduced for nearly 60 years. When it was finally mounted by the Lincoln Center Theater, Taj Mahal was the logical choice for the critical role of composer/musical performer.
