Freddie Brooks made the move westward twelve years ago from the flatlands of Kansas, settling in Phoenix, AZ for a few years where he began to develop his dynamic blues style. After a three year stint as a front man for a successful local band there, he made the difficult move to southern California, settling in Long Beach. Here is where Brooks began to flex his musical muscle. The Freddie Brooks Band was born, and with hand-picked musicians to fill out the sound, Brooks could showcase his strong vocal ability and harmonica style. The band has been playing a rigorous schedule all along the south coast for years, laying the foundation for their first CD, "One Little Word", released in June '99 by KingAce Music. This is the first release for The Freddie Brooks Band. This West Coast Blues extravaganza has it all: sure-fire swing grooves, down-and-dirty slow blues, edgy blues-rock tracks, and atmospheric ballads -- the performances range from sincere, heartfelt testimonials to tongue-in-cheek humor. The rock-solid rythym section provides the foundation for Brooks' searing harmonica and Ross' over-the-top guitar work.
