<"b00018d5vc2999"> About the Artist
Walter Fischbacher plays keyboards and is a native Austrian. When he founded his band Phishbacher, he thought it would be really fun to just misspell his name a little bit and use the result as a band name, and so he did that.

In Austria he studied a lot, went to the Musikhochschule and the Music Conservatory in Vienna, and worked as a sideman in the smokin' Austrian music scene. But then danger lurked in the shape of mandatory military service for a whole year, so Walter decided to leave and study some more in New York City. Luckily he got several scholarships from the Austrian government (go figure&) and other organizations to help pay the sky high tuitions of Mannes College and the New School.

He arrived in NYC in 1994 and studied with some cats, and continued to work as a sideman. He also got into tuning pianos and producing and engineering, all of which have either helped pay his phone bill or expanded his musical horizon. Since 2000 he produced several pop/r&b/rap artist, one of them singer/songwriter Tera with the full-length album "Alien Lovers," which was a nerve-racking and rewarding experience.

Since 2001 he goes on tour to the Czech Republic with trumpet player Laco Deczi. The touring can't suck, because he keeps on going back to Czech about twice a year.

And of course, here's a little name dropping: WF has been working with: George Garzone, Tim Levebvre, Ravi Coltrane, Chico Freeman, Billy Harper, Charles Tolliver, Frank Foster, Vienna Art Orchestra, Ingrid Jensen, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Gary Dial, Jamie Haddad, Peter Herbert, Corin Curschellas, etc etc

"Walter Fischbacher proved to be a sensitive and brilliant virtuoso."(Davos News, Switzerland)

"Walter Fischbacher grooves effortlessly, his playing stays round and smooth throughout."(Concerto, Austria)

Hary Ganglberger is many things: former roommate, former band mate, former country mate of Walter Fischbacher, to name one or two. He is also a ridiculously passionate and impressively musical drummer, violinist, composer, digeridoo fanatic, egg eater and beer drinker. Not surprisingly, after being Austria's number one hotshot ueberdrummer for a few years, his signature restlessness got the better of him and in 1999 he moved to New York City.

Hary has been busy performing with bands of various kinds and styles, from Tera (jazzy-rocky singer/songwriter)to Indofunk (traditional indian funk) to Fit (non dumb punk). You get the picture.

Steve Doyle New York-by-way-of-Nebraska bassist and composer Steve Doyle has been around the block. One of those frightening multi-instrumentalists, the man can even sing! Such talent must not go unrecognized, and thus Steve D. was a semi-finalist in the 1997 T. S. Monk Jazz-Bass Competition and won First Prize in the Milt Hinton Scholarship Fund Competition. He has played with the cats and toured the old world, and yes, he has his own CD out. ("Presence", featuring Chris Potter, Dave Stryker and Tony Moreno).

Phishbacher have set out to re-invent the piano trio. Influenced by Herbie Hancock, EST and Michel Camilo, they have merged the ethereal with groove, brain with guts, and spirit with virtuosity.
