Doug Sahm, a veritable Texas music foundation, has had a sure grip on blues, R&B, Tex-Mex, and other territorial strains since the 1960s. These days he stocks his coin-operated record player with fair-to-good rehashes of vintage R&B material from Don and Juan, the Hollywood Flames, and Jesse Belvin, along with a few unprogressive shuffles and rock numbers. Best appreciated by those who remember the Eisenhower years. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993
