<"b000001kzp5228"> From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD
After twenty-odd years of undervalued singing, soul bluesmaster Hill hit it big on the 1982-83 black charts with his four-star Down Home album-only to pass away months later, at age forty-four. His breakthrough label, Malaco, of Jackson, Mississippi, does his memory proud with this eleven- song salute, just chock-full of his stray-beyond-the-marriage-bed compunction. Forget about his voice lacking firmness and emotional sway a' la Bobby Bland; its earthiness is dignified by one excellent song after another from on-call Malaco scribes and by soul-stirring arrangements. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993 --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
