A Taste of the Blue Rose

There is a tremendous amount of Blues talent in the City of Portland and the State of Oregon. Flying Heart Records took a select group of these performers and gathered them for two days this past May, resulting in the very eclectic collection, "A Taste of the Blue Rose." Most of the artists presented here will be familiar names to local Blues fans. Mel Solomon's trio of selections, 73-year-old O.C. Thomas' cover of Muddy Waters and the guitar tour de force tribute to the late Paulette Davis by the project's organizer Jan Celt make this collection worth the purchase price alone. "A Taste of the Blue Rose" is a worthy sample of the varying stylesw of Portland's Blues, and just may lead the listener to seek out these fine entertainers the next time they decide to hear live music.

Enjoy top-notch, soulful performances from 73-year-old O.C.Thomas, 60-something blues screamer Mel Solomon (formerly of Hank Ballard and the Midnighters), harmonica ace Johnnie Ward, blues chanteuse Lily Wilde and others, backed by crack Portland pros. Sixteen tracks of soulful performances convincingly make the case that music really is Portland's greatest natural resource.
