Ben Demerath premieres a sweetheart brand of melody-laden folk that portrays tales of pastoral love, family, and childhood. His voice is rich with melancholy color and emotive technique. On his reading of "Man of Constant Sorrow" he uses his windswept vocals to mesmerizing effect. Other tracks feature Demerath waxing nostalgic with an "I'm a sensitive guy," puppy-dog delivery that will make college girls swoon. Thankfully Demerath backs up his earnest soulfulness with some strong songwriting that blossoms nicely throughout Jack of Fools while adding covers of Townes Van Zandt and Richard Thompson. --Karen K.
