Hey! Hey! Mardi Gras
Editorial Reviews Big Al refers to the band's renderings as "gumbo blues." Chicago, Texas and New Orleans are the main ingredients, but without the fine musicianship here, the stew would become just empty calories. In addition, the band brings their own tunes to the table. All 11 songs on the disc are originals, springing from the fertile minds of Al and his mates. These tunes have an easy familiarity that comes from quality song writing. The music on Hey!Hey! is played with the passion of a lover and the restraint of a professional. It is not over the top, it is on the mark. They deftly handle the foot tapping, mood-elevating stuff; rip your heart out, done wrong ballads; and let their subtle rock sensibilities show when called for. The package is enhanced by the fine vocals of Tim Wagoner (guitar).

Hey, Hey Mardi Gras is a fun and memorable CD. Easily one of the best blues albums of the year

For all those skeptics out there, it's been proven once again: size isn't everything. Big Al (5 ft. 5 inches) and his band, the Heavyweights, satisfy (that is musically) with the big boys. These minstrels of the Blue note are about to re-release their second album. The new CD, Hey! Hey! Mardi Gras, by all rights should bring them some national recognition. Hopefully, this one will receive a wider audience.
