This late-'70s German recording by one of the blues' finest musicians is being released in the U.S. by Evidence music, marking the first time that No More Whiskey has been available in the United States. Recorded only a few years before Williams's death, in 1982, this CD is an excellent example of his later work and, in fact, of his music overall. It's all here--Williams's rich, expressive singing; his heavily rhythmic guitar work; and several classic songs, the standout of which is "Lonesome Train Blues." There are also four gospel songs, with the vocals of Lydia Carter accompanying Williams's singing on "Jesus Gonna Make Up My Dyin' Bed," "When I Lay My Burden Down," and "Somebody's Been Borrowin'." --Genevieve Williams
