Editorial Reviews Members of The Flashbacks have performed for numerous private parties, country clubs, outdoor festivals and benefits throughout the state. Attendance at some of these events has reached 10,000. They have opened for performers such as The Fantastic Shakers, Chairman of the Board, The Impressions, Maurice Williams, The Mighty Tams and Billy Joe Royal. The Flashbacks were invited to perform at the 4th Annual Cammy Awards Show held at the Gatlin Brothers Theater in Myrtle Beach, S.C. in November, 1998. This event is held to honor outstanding performers in the beach music industry. For 1999, The Flashbacks received a nomination for a Cammy Award in the new artist category. They performed again at the 5th Annual Cammy Awards show, November 14, 1999, which was presented at the Crook and Chase Theater in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Weekend Getaway is the title of the latest CD recorded by The Flashbacks. It was produced by Curtiss Carpenter and engineered at BradleyHouse Studios in Quinby, South Carolina. BradleyHouse Studios has recorded other great beach music groups such as The Clovers, The Tams, The Embers, Joe Simon, The Breeze Band, and many more. Weekend Getaway contains 10 cuts that cover a wide range of musical styles from shag to swing. Ripete Records is distributing the CD on the Carlen label, and can be found at www.amazon.com or any music outlet that carries Carolina Beach Music. With its July 1, 1999 release, Weekend Getaway progressively climbed the beach music charts. The CD charted for forty-five weeks. Shakin is the title of the newest release by The Flashbacks. This CD is on the Ripete Records label, and is available where Beach Music is sold. The album contains 10 cuts, while several are original, others are covers of classic hits. Bill Pinkney of The Original Drifters was a guest vocalist teaming up with The Flashbacks to remake his 1954 hit Steamboat. The release date of the CD was June 1, 2001. The Flashbacks, the beach and oldies group that has been rockin the S.C.Upstate for six years, is excited that its newest project, Shakin, was released by Ripete Records on June 15, 2001. Recorded and mixed at Bradley House Studios in Quinby, South Carolina, and produced by Larry Pope, Fred Shaw, and The Flashbacks, the CD is a collection of ten distinctive songs that includes two original tunes written by Kenny Burger, saxophonist and vocalist with the group. Shakin and Lets Have a Party are both high-energy dance numbers that spotlight Kennys unique talents and smooth vocals. The remaining eight selections are classic oldies into which The Flashbacks have breathed new life and presented in a fresh, updated manner.
