DAVID LOHNES Jr. (DAKOTA/MENOMINEE), an enrolled tribal member of the Spirit Lake Nation, began his musical career as a teenager with the Red Spirit band of St. Michael, North Dakota. David is also a direct descendent of the Owl Clan of the Menominee tribe located in Northeastern Wisconsin. His Grandfather was the late Joseph Neconish of Neopit, Wisconsin and his Great Grandmother was the daughter of the late Chief Waanatan, a Dakota chief of the Sisseton/Wahpeton band who resided in St. Michael, North Dakota. David was born in Minneapolis, MN, and at the age of seven he moved with his family to what is now called the Spirit Lake Reservation of North Dakota. He is the eldest of eight children including two half brothers. David believes strongly in his heritage and family is very important to him. His hope is to one day give back to his reservation and people, with the promotion of music among the young, and the hope of showing the children to believe in their abilit! ies and believe in themselves; therefore they can obtain their dreams.

Dakota Skies is a compilation of contemporary Native American music with a country rock, blues flavor. It is the first CD of original songs written and performed by David Lohnes Jr. @ Makoche' recording company in Bismarck, ND. The CD is just a taste of the talent of David with the follow up CD to include even more of his original musical style. The title track ( Dakota Skies ) is a song written about the Native American pow wow and one almost feels the deep spirituality associated with the pounding of the drum. The third track ( Halfway ) is a danceable tune with an upbeat feel providing the listener with the desire to get up and dance. Show Me what Is Real, the 4th track, which was accompanied by the flute talents of grammy award winning flutist Andrew Vasquez, is a love song written with an abstract lyrical sense as if the singer is speaking to a ghost, or someone who is not present but always present in their mind. The entire CD, including each and every song! ! is one that will excite the listener if not inspire the listener and is well worth the time to check it out.
