Leon Kittrell & Statesboro represents the teaming of one of America's great blues and soul singers with one of its baddest live concert bands. With "The Blues Come Over Me," Leon Kittrell, who has recorded with a Who's Who of R&B stars including the Temptations, the Jackson Five, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Les McCann, Al Wilson, Donna Summer and many others, steps out front on an album that honors his roots in blues and R&B and features his remarkable vocal talents. The band (and this album) weaves its way through three very closely related and overlapping musical styles: the blues, rhythm-and-blues, and contemporary jazz. Of course, the blues was the father of the other two styles, and the musical family resemblances are so close that no one can really tell where one leaves off and the others begin. Expect to experience powerfully moving singing, soul-stirring R&B dance grooves, and sparkling blues and jazz musicianship.
