One of the very best contemporary Christian music groups to come out of the Pittsburgh, PA area in a long time is a band called THREE THIRTY THREE.

Al Green and Otis Redding are two excellent soul singers that come to mind most often when people hear the “down-home” music of 3 THIRTY 3 and listen to the vulnerable plaintive voice of their lead singer, J.D. Davenport. Born out of the church influenced soul music tradition that emanated from the STAX RECORDING STUDIOS in Memphis, Tennessee during the mid 60’s, 3 THIRTY 3’s music embodies the roots, the romance, and the spirit of that entire STAX studio era. This CD is quite unique. At a time when singers and musicians desire to record in 24 or 48 track digital studios and utilize all the “bells and whistles” they can to make themselves sound better, 3 THIRTY 3 has decided to go in a completely different direction. The musicians in 3 THIRTY 3, J.D. Davenport, Scott Walls, Greg Quarrick, and John DiNunno, made the decision to record with the same type of vintage recording equipment and with the same type of classic, economic musical arrangements that might have been used at STAX RECORDS in the 60’s. Utilizing a vintage analog 8-track recorder and some venerable mics that we located (EV 664’s from the 60’s) 3 THIRTY 3 has worked hard to come up with a quality “live” studio sound that holds up well by today’s standards and yet still maintains the integrity and roots of 60’s soul music (with a little honky-tonk, rock, country & pop thrown in for good measure). We hope that you enjoy this CD as much as we enjoyed making it; it was truly a labor of love and a whole lot of fun!
