<"b000069dng2999"> About the Artist
We derive our collective name, The Brains Behind Pa, from a Bob Dylan song, and as a band we accord his songs a central place in our repertoire. We’re not a Dylan "tribute" band, but we find a powerful resonance in Dylan’s songs, and in those of the artists he influenced. We’re also partial to the singer/songwriters of an earlier generation, such as Woody Guthrie, who influenced Dylan.

We’re out to explore the great expansive range of American song – back to a time before songs had identifiable authors, but developed as they were passed along – and forward to rock & roll. Along the way we delve into the raw blues of Robert Johnson, the rockabilly of Carl Perkins, folk, and even bluegrass.

The common thread running through the music we play is a preference for honest songs rooted in traditional styles, always true, never slick. We’re drawn to songs with feeling, meaning, and heart. Put another way, we’re a song-driven band, not one coasting along on attitude or hitched to a trend.

OLD HAT Old Hat presents the band in its acoustic trio configuration (with help from Jeff Chapin on two songs).

We recorded seven songs — most of them are traditional. The songs we chose are ones that we've always loved and have always wanted to record. We tried to give them our own "unique" interpretation. Total running time is about 35 minutes. OLD HAT is like a sampler or "ep" and is priced accordingly.

Gordon Bonham: Acoustic Guitar, Vocals, National Steel Guitar, Electric Guitar, Banjo
Bill Price: Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Mandolin, Harmonica
Garry Bole: Mandolin, Accordion, Vocals
Jeff Chapin: Drums
