A slice of swampy barroom choogle Sweet little country blues "I Don't Got You" could have come from...Mose Allison

<"b000066b382999"> About the Artist
Now based in Tucson, Montana native Ric Richter has been a working musician, singer, and songwriter since his teen years, in addition to a second career as a pharmacist. Early influences included the Beatles, Ray Charles and various Delta Blues artists. At fourteen, Ric knew he wanted to be in a band, but after six months of guitar practice, things weren't coming along fast enough. Richter says, "Suddenly it struck me that the bass player only had to play four strings and no chords!" Bass... read more

With a driving backbeat and solid arrangements, Ric Richter delivers a "slice of swampy barroom choogle" as reviewed in Tucson Weekly. ROAD MAP may be his solo debut, but singer-songwriter Richter displays a veteran's command of the blues/country/rock genres in this lively collection of songs, performed and largely authored by the artist, a Montana native currently living and working in Tucson. Richter has had an unusual dual career as both a professional musician and a pharmacist.

Throughout the CD, the rambling, upbeat rhythm of the music belies much of its serious subject matter.

The title track, "ROAD MAP," is a country testimonial to the warmth and power of family love. Written in the aftermath of a personal crisis, Richter reminds us of the healing strength in the simple things we often take for granted. In "LOW ON CASH," a surprisingly good-natured moan about being left by a woman who took the car and everything else, a man struggles to survive with what's left. Somehow we know that the waitress's "Don't take Discovery, American Express" won't keep this guy down for long.

"DITTY" lightly describes the bizarre darkness of a man's twin encounters with depression and the demoralizing "HMO and gatekeeper woes" of the medical system. Other tracks, such as "BATHTUB BLUES" and "DON'T GOT YOU," delve into traditional blues format, and also include a reverent cover of Rainer Ptacek's "WHERE'S THAT AT?".

Covering the style range from Creedence Clearwater to B.B. King, ROAD MAP is an easy yet thought-provoking trip down the highway of life.
