Sancta Mater
Editorial Reviews When she was in fourth grade, Darcy began playing piano for her parish church and in high school, she was hired to play for another church, as well as for numerous weddings and other events. After high school, though she continued to play piano, Darcy drifted away from the practice of her Catholic faith and was attracted to the occult practices she was exposed to in college. However, during these years as her lifestyle conflicted more and more with the faith she'd been raised with, she found herself lonely, heart-broken, and realizing there was something very important missing in her life. She finally turned to God to ask him to help her, even though she had injured her relationship with Him so gravely. God answered her. All these years she had still been playing piano for church choir, though not receiving the sacraments. It was no doubt due to the prayers of those choir members for her that led God to use somebody from the choir to get her back on track. A friend helped her realize that she needed Jesus. On the very night he sat down with her to have this discussion, the phone rang, and it was a Christian music group looking for a piano player. For some reason she agreed to do it, and spent the next few years being drawn into the world of Christian music. With True Harmony, Darcy learned what it meant to spread God's word through music. She also learned what it meant to have true Christian friends; it was a married couple in True Harmony who got her back to the sacrament of Penance in which she admitted her sins and knew God's forgiveness. Though it was a difficult journey to give up her secular way of thinking, in time she embraced her Catholic faith anew. Other Catholic friends came along who loved their faith and enjoyed praying together. Darcy admired these friends and wanted to share in their love of the Lord. They encouraged her, and one friend got her involved with youth ministry and convinced her to apply for a masters program in theology. Before long, Darcy was working with the youth full time and studying for her degree. She completed her Master of Theological Studies degree from the University of Dallas IRPS program in spring of 2001. Today Darcy and her husband Jason are living in Laurel, Maryland where Jason works as an aerospace engineer. They joyfully celebrated the birth of their first child, John Paul Anthony, on July 7th, 2002.

Darcy Maher grew up in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Her love of music began when she was four years old. Her parents had acquired an old upright piano, and her dad was trying to teach himself to play. However, every time he sat down on the piano, Darcy showed up... she wanted to play! It wasn't long before her parents gave up the piano to Darcy, put her in piano lessons, and she has been playing ever since.
