Once again, Ross' blues, folk and political pop score high in all genres. She never seems to lose her music-power. Though the phrase, Coloring Outside the Lines is not unique, this album is. From the mix of styles to the inclusion of an e-mail conversation, (between former LASS director John Braheny and producer/songwrter Manidi Martin-Fox in the liner notes), Ross creates pictures familiar to us, yet with a unique sense of color and style. Grab your grown-up crayons and join in.

Sandy Ross is a gifted, versatile songwriter and a powerful singer who always sounds entirely committed to her material, whether it be an expression of outrage, as in her poignant song about the Oklahoma City bombing, How Was It Justified?, an expression of desperation, as in Mary Ann, or expressions of guilty pleasures in Five Coins In, which humorously covers her allegiance to video poker. <"b00000guzh4999"> Album Description
Songwriter Sandy Ross' new CD, Coloring Outside the Lines, takes off from where her last CD, Portraits of Innocence, leaves off. This fully-arranged, but totally acoustic recording, styles songs that range from mid-forties jazz-blues through early rock 'n' roll, and on up from 60s folk into 90s contemporary folk styles and topics. Somewhere between the lines of jazz and the blues, blues and rock, rock and folk, and, gospel-folk and the blues there's an area of rich grays that everyone seems to just comfortably call, THE BLUES. This recording musically weaves in and out of all those lines, in styling, and lyrically paints in colors vivid with issues, philosophies, and attitudes. If you're already a fan of Sandy's you'll love this CD. If you're a fan of the blues, you'll love this CD. If you love acoustic music but haven't as yet discovered acoustic blues, get ready to make a real discovery!
