Wingin' It
Editorial Reviews At 18, David won an audition to perform with the United States Navy Music Program. After graduating from the Armed Forces School of Music in Virginia Beach, David was stationed in an all-star band in New Orleans. David performed in groups ranging from Classical Brass Quintets to Big Bands and intimate Jazz Combos. In New Orleans, David met native Jerome Theriot, a saxophone player and composer dynamo who shared David’s passion for jazz and performing. Over the next few years, David traveled to the Midwest, performing with the Tulsa Philharmonic and various Jazz, Afro-Cuban and Blues groups. During this time, Jerome continued to write music and perform with the Navy. Soon after, both David and Jerome began performing in demanding Jazz and Broadway-style shows on various cruise lines. After traveling around the globe, David settled in the Twin Cities where he met piano legend, Bobby Peterson, the former pianist for Buddy Rich. Bobby was the first musician David met in the Twin Cities and over time, Bobby became a mentor to David. In 2001, David and Jerome began collaborating on Wingin’ It. Bobby introduced David to veteran Steve Miller Band sidemen, Billy Peterson and Gordy Knudtson and the quintet was complete.

David’s musical family influenced him early in life with gospel and classical music. His love affair with the trumpet began as a child, listening to the symphony with his grandmother. It was there that David first remembers hearing the majestic sound of the trumpet and was drawn to it immediately.
