Guitar has been a passion for me since I was 12 years old. My first guitar was a cherry red Gibson ES-330 that I played in a stage band, then in a garage rock band in high school. My guitar playing grew and became more expressive during my college days while forging friendships and playing acoustic lead guitar in a folk rock band. My joy in recently discovering and remixing those old tapes encouraged me to record my own original songs. After a long lull and the growth of a career as a physician at Harvard Medical School, I began to play again for my own relaxation over the past few years. Around this time, I started to explore different sounds and tonalities as an unnecessary but blissful diversion. I taught myself keyboards as a compositional tool and to add depth and complexity to my recordings.

While I write most of my songs on acoustic guitar or piano, I've used my interest in different instruments and the potential of the modern recording studio to record multi-tracked songs that allow me to express the full vision of my songs with complex and varied arrangements. Recording this album has been a joy and epiphany for me. I express my artistic energies in these deeply personal creations and am delighted to share my musical vision. I hope this music brings you joy and wonder too.

Flight of Ideas is an instrumental recording featuring acoustic and electric guitar work in varied lyrical and expressive songs. Synthesizer and electric piano sounds round out the tonal landscape. Songs range from pensive to funky. My musical inspirations are diverse and you will hear elements of jazz, blues, folk, fusion, and rock. Some may consider certain songs to be new age but I've never embraced that label. My guitar lines are clean, passionate, and from the heart.

I recorded this CD from April 2002 to July 2003 and include here 14 original songs among three dozen completed works. I produced these songs using a digital audio workstation that permitted complex multi-tracked recordings and overdubbing. For the first time, I could realize my vision of fully formed nuanced versions of my songs. On this CD, I play all of the instruments; the songs range from one to fifteen separate tracks. Instruments include acoustic guitar, 12-string guitar, electric guitar, classical guitar, bass guitar, piano, synthesizer, electric piano, clavinet, and organ.
