Sexual Chocolate and the White Boys
Editorial Reviews Band History: Sexual Chocolate and the White Boys started out with the band name "Re-Volt." Like the video game.... Lyle and Chris jammed together in various projects throughout the 90's. They eventually started a new one from scratch in October of 1999. I (Steve Duder) had joined the band shortly after a jam with my college buddy Lyle Anderson in December of 1999. It was kid of weird. I always thought Lyle was too weird of a guitarist to play with but he was really talented. He was a very different type of guitarist because he was a synth guitarist. We went to computer school together and at the time Lyle was in another band called "Audio Therapy." He wanted to do a side project from the band he was currently in because he just loves music that much. So, we started as a 3 piece band without vocals. We just had Synth Guitar, Bass guitar, and Drums. Lyle Anderson - (Synth Guitar), Chris Anderson - (Dummer), Steve Duder - (Bass). We placed an ad for a keyboard player because Chris and Lyle did not want vocals.... I did though. We auditioned a keyboard player named Jesse Anderson in June of 2000. We had 3 people with the last name Anderson in our band now. (Too many damn Anderson's... Some of them had to go!!!) Things worked out for 3 about months with Jesse. Jesse bumped heads with Lyle and tried to vote Lyle out of the band because Lyle was also in Audio Therapy. (You can't vote the person who started the band out of their own band!!!) We eventually placed ads for a singer and we audtioned a singer that could actually sing to the wacky music that we were creating. We chose this singer (Marcus Upton) and eventually came up with the name "Sexual Chocolate and the White Boys" in November of 2000. We were previously called "Re-Volt" and then "Studiobum" before changing the name to "Sexual Chocolate and the White Boys." Chris Anderson (dummer) decided to quit the band because he did not like working with singers. We still play as the 3 piece "Studiobum" sometimes even though it is not a very serious band.) We found a new drummer that replaced Chris and he really could tear it up. (Mark Baker) joined the band in May of 2001. He wowed us with all of the white soul that poured out of his drumming. He was not just creating "beats," he was creating "sex beats." Marcus (1st Sexual Chocolate) stopped caring about the band as his "habits" became more important to him. Because of his lifestyle, he was looking at a long period of jail time so he was out of the band. (You can't be in a band if your in jail!) We had 5 gigs lined up and no singer. What were we going to do? Well, Mark Baker plays in another jazz project called "Starting Point." Mark suggested that we get Andy to fill in for us. Mark always wanted horns in our band anyway. He played with Andrew Schwandt (Tenor Sax) in "Starting Point." Andrew was a great sax player and could fill in on short notice. Andy Schwandt was just getting done with his 4 year so he had time to help us out in June of 2002. We played the 5 gigs and managed to pull them off without having to cancel the shows. We set our sights on looking for a new "Sexual Chocolate" to become the voice for our music. DeRaye Miller showed up with a huge notebook full of poetry and had many songs written on his own. (September of 2002) He could also sing very well. We knew he was the new "Sexual Chocolate." We have been working with the same members for over a year and are tight. SCWB is a brotherhood now!!! We have just released our self titled debut CD and we all are very proud to have gotten to this point.

We are high energy Rock, Funk, R&B, Jazz, Fusion, and Reggae band. We have a tolken black guy, a bald guy, a hippie, a jazz snob, and an old drummer who we like to call "dad."
