A Tribute to Miles
Editorial Reviews Miles Davis heard young Freddie at a club in New York and helped him land a contract with Blue Note Records. He appeared on two releases that are turning points in jazz - John Coltrane's "Ascension" and Ornette Coleman's "Free Jazz." Freddie moved to the Impulse label where he recorded"The Body and Soul," featuring Wayne Shorter. He then moved to Atlantic and recorded Ilhan Mimaroglu's LP "Sing Me A Song of Sogmy." He signed with CTI Records in the early 70's and recorded "Red Clay" which made him a superstar. "First Light" followed and won Freddie a Grammy. In 1974Freddie signed with Columbia Records where he recorded "High Energy," "Liquid Love," "Windjammer," and "bundle of Joy." For "Super Blue," he took a direct approach, inspired by the VSOP tour of 1977 where he played with Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Wayner Shorter, and Tony Williams. "Love Connection" represented a classical approach and his final album for Columbia was "Skagly."
<"b0000000we2999"> About the Artist
Freddie Hubbard first attended Jordan College where he could concentrate on the trumpet. He focused on his own style and was bounced for playing too much jazz. He felt "fortunate" however for it freed him to gig and hone his talents with local greats.

Freddie Hubbard recorded live at the Jazz Jamboree in Warsaw Poland. This recording features Hubbard on trumpet, Ronnie Mathews on piano, Jeff Chambers on bass, Ralph Penland on drums, and Donald Braden on tenor saxophone. It was recorded in October 1991. The over packed house rose to their feet for the virtuoso trumpeter as he belted out "Bolivia." Hubbard has demonstrated his ingenious melodies and brilliant technique all over the world, always performing with other great jazz artists. He has also tried many varieties of music, such as fund, disco, and all-electric rock, but has always pleased his audience most with his lyrical ballads and swinging bop.
