Karen Carroll's "Sweet Home Chicago" opens Red Hot Mamas with a couple of verses on which she's accompanied only by the late John Duich's acoustic guitar. Patricia Scott [wife of the late Buddy Scott] deserves to have made her recording debut long ago if "Something You Got," a New Orleans flavored shuffle with excellent Johnny B. Moore guitar, is any indication.... Shirley Johnson's "Unchain My Heart" is a powerful take on the classic song, boosted by a four-piece horn section, background vocal group, and lead guitar from Maurice John Vaughn; "Hold What You've Got," the best vocal track on the CD, is a Joe Tex composition that reveals Johnson's gospel roots right down to a spoken word "sermon" halfway through....
