Just In Time
Editorial Reviews Earma still performs regularly at north side clubs such as Andys, Katerinas, and Green Dolphin Street, usually backing up saxophonists Julie Wood, John Brumbach, or Jimmy Ellis. Recently, she delivered an amazing solo performance at the Old Town School of Folk Musics First Piano Night, and she joined Jimmy Ellis to entertain all at the Chicago Jazz Institutes 2004 Jazz Fair. Earma also accompanies Gospel singers at the annual Mahalia Jackson and Marion Anderson tribute concert at the South Shore Cultural Center, along with bass player John Whitfield.
<"b0002dusj82999"> About the Artist
In the 1950's and 1960's, Earma Thompson and her husband Marshall (a drummer who recorded with Oscar Peterson, James Moody, Stan Getz, and others) would play together at all of the Chicago south side clubs. In this time, she accompanied Billie Holiday and Joe Williams. As a result of Marshalls career and her own, Earma became ensconced in Chicagos jazz community.

For over fifty years Earma Thompson has played jazz piano in Chicago. Although humble by nature, she is recognized by fellow jazz musicians as the reigning Queen of Chicago Jazz. With bassist John Whitfield, she swings on the standards "Just In Time", "Softly, As In The Morning Sunrise", and "Witchcraft". Her blues playing on "After Hours" and "Back at the Chicken Shack" is low down and evokes memories of what it was like to listen to music on the south side in a bygone era. Saxophonist John Brumbach joins Earma on "hot and spicy" versions of "Ger-ru" and "Vierd Blues".
Just In Time, Music, Earma Thompson, Bop, Jazz, Jazz Blues, Pop, Standards, The reigning Queen of Chicago Jazz serves up some of her tasty piano along with gass and a little sax.
