<"b00000048q5228"> From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD
McCracklin's recording career has encompassed nearly a half century, taking in the 1958 pop smash "The Walk" and a great deal of other fine work (whether well remembered or lamentably obscure). Without sacrificing any of his enduring charm his early-1990s Bullseye Blues debut has a resolutely contemporary blues quality that places the Bay Area singer/ pianist/songwriter (he wrote B. B. King's "The Thrill Is Gone," for one) in the limelight again. Refashioned jump blues alternate with funky R&B items and two songs cofeature New Orleans soul chanteuse Irma Thomas-every last one a good-natured exposition.
