Johnson's Whacks
Editorial Reviews
<"b000004bjs5228"> From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD
Although a leading modern bluesman, Chicago's Jimmy Johnson is poorly represented on six-inch disc. This fairish, newly remixed 1979 set-a farrago of good songs and throwaways- features his high, sharp voice taking an anguished turn while his guitar slashes mercilessly in grief. Johnson's band is no better than acceptable, with pianist Carl Snyder faring poorly for the fresh sound manipulation -- © Frank John Hadley 1993 --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
