Up-and-coming guitarist Mike Welch's third album finds him making inroads into the rock realm, while remaining firmly tied to a blues base. "As Good As Gone" and "Money (That's What I Want)" are out-and-out rockers, while "Make Up Your Mind" and "A Price to Pay" are more blues rock, complete with horns. By far the poppiest song on the album is the Beatles-esque title track; however, for those who might fear that Welch has abandoned his roots, rest easy. Catch Me is full of tasty blues licks, especially on "If I Love You" and "Blues for Cara.". Welch's guitar work is definitely his strength, and he wisely includes several instrumental pieces, including "Mole's Blues," "Worried Life Blues," and "Don't Worry." The last two feature excellent piano work from David Maxwell, an additional treat. --Genevieve Williams
