Just as he was among the most elegant of our R&B and blues vocalists, Johnny Adams brings the force of his New Orleans soul vocabulary to bear on this assortment of jazzier material, the follow-up to his successful 1993 jazz album Good Morning Heartache. In front of smaller combos--Crescent City kid Harry Connick Jr. contributes solo piano to a couple of tracks--Adams shows no fear in tackling hoary standards such as "Willow Weep For Me," "Love for Sale," and "I Cover the Waterfront." And why should he? He makes them as much his own as the three contemporary Doc Pomus/Mac Rebennack songs. Splendid. --Ben Edmonds --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
