Words to ponder: it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. These are words that Big Joe & the Dynaflows live by, making their third album a rare swing-revival treat. Whether tackling original compositions or covers (including Louis Jordan's obscure "Lemonade"), they do it with a panache that makes both sound equally good. I'm Still Swingin' weighs substance over style, swing over speed; "On the Other Hand," for instance, has a slow sultriness that most modern swing bands would be hard-pressed to match. Big Joe pays homage to his considerable influences here, going so far as to include a cover of B.B. King's "Early Every Morning." But whatever the source, it all still swings. --Genevieve Williams --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
