Editorial Reviews From birth came the harmonious cry of the newborn, Joshua Sebastian Stewart, on March 12, 1987. Total in his harmony Joshua has an ear that can catch all flaws on the scale sung vocally or played instrumentally. This child prodigy has been working in the business from singing lead and background vocals in the studio to songwriting. His experience also involves singing jazz standards on a recently cd released entitled " Joshua Stewart Jazz Prodigy", an on stage appearance at the Fairmount Blue Room to television with Cicely Tyson. Joshua began his singing career with his mother local entertainer RoBin White-Morton. He has been offered several opportunities to perform as a recording artist since the age of ten but declined. However, recently his interest has been sparked to become an intricate part of the jazz world in the entertainment industry. In turn he has now decided to engage himself fully where he begun continuing his recording career with the same person who gave him his first trumpet none other than Milton Batiste of the Olympia Brass Band, The Magnificent Seven and DuBat Productions. He has also sung with the RAMS a touring gospel group under the direction of the late Maestro Raymond A. Myles, Sr. There he quickly moved from the soprano, to alto section. To him Gospel was gospel, but is wasnt jazz. His true love for jazz took him back to his original settings. He maintained that his style of music is jazz and will forever be. His singing style liens more toward those performers! he spends hours listening to such as Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Diana Washington, Frank Sinatra, Sam Cook, and Harry Connick, Jr. Joshua continued to persevere in his jazz experience while attending Academia Creative Arts Academy where he played principal characters in stage shows such as "New Orleans Secondline City" as Rev. Bougalay, "Between Me You & The Gate Post" as Terrance and "Anything Happens In Church" as Deacon Smith. There he sung original songs written especially for the shows to large but modest audiences such as "Down, Down", New Orleans Secondline City", Jazz Whos Playing That Song" and more. For several years he attended the New Orleans Jazz Camp Directed by Kidd Jordan. Studying with New Orleans legends like Clyde Kerr, Alvin Batiste, Kent Jordan, Jonathan Blouin and more; there he confirmed his technical feel for jazz. Just like others he had the opportunity to experience none other than New Orleans own jazz master Wynton Marsalis in intense master classes and culminating stage performances. Sultry is a word associated with this young balladeers. His sound is that of old style and young school-calm, cool, and collected. All daylong and all night you can hear Joshua singing. "Music is music" said Stewart, "but jazz is the way I flow". To his credits is singing in all school functions at Paul L. Dunbar Accelerated School from morning programs, the Sweetheart Coronation, to the Mardi Gras Balls. There he can be found singings song such as Nat King Coles rendition of L-O-V-E and "What A Difference A Day Make". In 1998 he was selected to received the Lorraine P. Wilson Music Award as outstanding in instrumental music where he played trumpet in the school band. He was later tested and deemed talented in vocal music and instrumental. He is currently receiving three hours of music and intensive theory in the Orleans Parish School system under the direction of Mr. Jones. His favorite style of music as stated is jazz. He can be seen anywhere throughout the city at any time singing on stage or acting in movies, commercials or the theatre. His movie career includes work with such artist as Cicely Tyson in "A Lesson Before Dying".
