On a Mardi Gras Day [Live]

The temporary partnership of New Orleans singer/pianist Mac Rebennack (aka Dr. John, the gris-gris jivester) and trombonist Chris Barber, an English jazz and blues institution, caused quite a media stir in Great Britain in the early 1980s. Recording at a club full of Londoners, the two principals and Barber's deft Bourbon Street~on-the-Thames septet get festive with tunes more or less appropriate for Shrove Tuesday. The headliners' duet blues "You Lie Too Much" is a keeper. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993
