King Cotton Blues Band (Clovis) does original blues with a workingman feel, and their self-titled album was recorded live--no studio tricks, just straight ahead blues. Tony Young has a youthful singing voice full of positive vibes, and Eddie Gay's guitar is clean and quick on the fills. Best cut: "Spider to the Fly," full of wry imagery.

With three pieces plus a vocalist, King Cotton delivers a clean sound with some welcome space around it. You can hear guitarist Eddie Gay's obvious Stevie Ray and Jimmy Vaughn influences, but he's a bit closer to the latter's understated lines than the former's over-the-top-approach.

A Stevie Ray Vaughn flavored action packed disc for your listening euphoria.
