After three years as the second guitarist and warm-up singer for Albert Collins, Debbie Davies released her first solo album, Picture This. Combining Collins's "ice-pick" guitar style with the warmer folk-blues vocals of a Bonnie Raitt, L.A.'s Davies is good enough at both styles to make her talent obvious but not good enough to sound truly singular. For example, on the title track, which she wrote herself, Davies plays some fast and pointed guitar breaks against the horn riff and belts out a promise of romantic bliss to a potential lover. The guitar solos, however, are a bit too generic to be personal, and the vocals are a bit too tentative to be totally convincing. --Geoffrey Himes --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
