<"b00005mnt52999"> About the Artist
Julie Dexter is at the forefront of the international Nu-Soul movement. A classically trained musician who writes, arranges, and produces, Julie has received numerous international awards and honors and is widely regarded as a musical prodigy. Although she has taken top-prize at the European Jazz Festival for her skills as a jazz-vocalist and is listed as a distinguished member of the Jazz community in The Rough Guide to Jazz, Julie's musical palate includes soul, drum n' bass, reggae, jazz, and funk. Her upcoming indie release, "Dexterity," will feature 6 different drummers and has been described as a cross between The Police and Roberta Flack. Born and raised in Birmingham, England of Jamaican parents, Julie Dexter developed her craft as a live performer and songwriter in the highly rarified atmosphere of the European jazz community. Mentored by jazz pioneer, Gary Crosby, Julie teamed up with members of the London jazz group, Tomorrow's Warriors, and formed J-Life. As the lead vocalist for J-Life, Julie stunned audiences at the world's most celebrated jazz festivals with her vocal mastery and passionate stage presence, and in 1997 J-Life became the first group of Black musicians to ever win the prestigious IJF European Jazz competition. With her acclaim as a jazz vocalist steadily rising, Julie began collaborating with Europe's top musicians and producers. These collaborations resulted in her being featured on a multitude of soul, jazz, acid jazz, and reggae releases. The most notable being Jazzanova's re-mix of a song she co-wrote and performed with Da Lata's Chris Franck entitled, "Burning," which has become a club classic. These collaborations also resulted in Julie realizing that her musical vision was too broad to be confined to jazz or to Europe, so she moved to America and independently released her first solo project, "Peace of Mind."

<"b00005mnt54999"> Album Description
Peace of Mind" was intended to simply introduce Julie's music to American tastemakers. Instead, it struck a chord deep within America's burgeoning soul music scene. The combination of Julie's classical and jazz training, and her lovers' rock reggae roots, created a sound that was both classic and modern. "Peace of Mind" provided a glimpse into the future of soul music. Released less than a year ago, it has inspired an international grass-roots cult following which includes the biggest names in modern soul music. From the breathtaking lyrical journey of "Ketch A Vibe" to the freestyle call and response of "Sweet Melodies of Jupiter" to the percussive rapture of "Burning," "Peace of Mind" takes listeners on a mind-blowing adventure into the depths of retro-modern soul.
