Calypso King Harry Belafonte will always be known for his smooth voice and island-infused music. All Time Greatest Hits, Vol. I would not be complete without Belafonte's signature piece, the tropical work song "Day O." Its lasting appeal has probably been because of its place in music history as a cultural reference point, but it is also a wonderful showcase for the control Belafonte had over his instrument. Just try mimicking his note-perfect run of "He say day, he say day, he say day o-o-o" and you'll get the point. All Time Greatest Hits, Vol. I also has standards like "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore" and "Abraham, Martin, and John." And, of course, the wonderfully playful "Cocoanut Woman" is here in all its exotic charm. --Steve Gdula --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
