Of course, the 1999 animated take on Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I can't really compare to the classic original movie's soundtrack. Predictably enough, Martin Vidnovic doesn't match the legendary performance of Yul Brynner. Luckily, Christiane Noll (Jekyll & Hyde) delivers a more convincing--if slightly overwrought--performance as Anna. The album's second half is dedicated to the Richard Rodgers score as arranged and conducted by William Kidd. Ultimately, Barbra Streisand's lovely medley of "I Have Dreamed/We Kiss in a Shadow/Something Wonderful" is the real reason most folks will want this CD. --Jason Verlinde --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
