Editorial Reviews An organ CD for people that just love great music! Stunningly played transcriptions Extensive Booklet Unpublished Skinner Family Photos This CD will win converts to the pipe organ You'll love this CD About this landmark American Symphonic Pipe Organ: The organ at Rosary Cathedral is a rare and well-preserved example of Ernest Skinner's fully evolved style. In it are merged the full compliment of Skinner's ravishing solo colors with comprehensive choruses in the Swell and Great divisions. By 1930, the year the contract for this instrument was signed, the Skinner style had been influenced by the presence of G. Donald Harrison, formerly of the Willis firm in England. For years Harrison's superior, Henry Willis III, had been convincing Ernest Skinner that adopting more developed chorus-work into his instruments would be a great asset. At Rosary, Mr. Harrison's contribution is only in the form of influence; the choruses, and particularly the structure of the Great mixtures, were designed personally by Mr. Skinner. The marvelous Skinner solo stops are also present, including a particularly beautifully English Horn, built in Skinner's second version with double-bell tops. In a letter dated January 30th, 1930, E.M. Skinner expressed his personal satisfaction with the proposed organ, when he wroteto Norbert Fox, the Cathedral Organist "I look your scheme over every day with renewed satisfaction. It gives me every opportunity to fulfill the confidence you have given me in according the Skinner organization a perfect opportunity to build a greatwork of art." This organ is virtually as Mr. Skinner left the organ in 1931.
