This is another performance of Riley's groundbreaking Minimalist work, In C, this time done with a percussion ensemble. It's been done with pianos only, and it's also been done with a saxophone and percussion; Riley himself has recorded it with a full orchestra. It works quite well here with just percussion, mostly for the timbre qualities of the xylophone and vibraphone. But be prepared: it can be quite maddening, especially at 42 minutes. Much more refreshing here is Eddy De Fanti's Djembe, which uses repetitions to underscore the melodies, not carry them directly. It's quite good. --Paul Cook
