Album Description
This CD is a phenomenal recording of Twedt's live April 2001 performance, featuring the best of Scarlatti, a passionate interpretation of a Beethoven favorite, all of the most difficult Chopin Preludes, and Stravinsky's Petrushka ballet transcription, which includes Twedt's own alterations and additions to the third movement. Twedt adds a section that Stravinsky skipped in the piano transcription in which a bear stands on its hind legs while a piper plays his pipe. Twedt also plays an even more bravura version of the already-most-acrobatic section of the third movement, making it sound even closer to the original orchestra transcription. Twedt's arrangement produces jumps across the piano that are nothing less than ridiculous for any pianist to do - even next to impossible, especially in a live recording. As fireworks-oriented as the CD is, it still carries huge artistic and interpretive appeal. The excitement of the live atmosphere (with 580 people in attendance at the recital--a full house) is captured with the enthusiastic applause at the end of every major work. Audio clips of the CD can be found at Chad Twedt's official web site.
