Album Description
the cry... is the second album from the Canadian chamber choir Ensemble de la Rue. The ensemble's first album, "One", sold out completely in six months in Canada, and this new album confirms their status as "one of Canada's finest chamber choirs". "The Cry" reflects the dual focus of Ensemble de la Rue, which performs mainly music of the central Renaissance, as well as very contemporary works, normally written within the last twenty-five years. The two modern works on this CD - by Nørgård and Rautavaara - are representative of the very finest in recent Scandinavian Choral Music, while the Renaissance sacred music features some of the greatest composers of the early 16th century and on up to Monteverdi. In particular, two works by Jacobus Clemens non Papa (Peccantem me and Conserva me, Domine) appear on CD for the first time. Ensemble de la Rue strives for purity of sound as well as historical accuracy when considering the Renaissance practices of musica ficta. This recording was made in the wonderful accoustic environment of the Banff Centre, Canada, and is of demonstration class.
