About the Artist
ENSEMBLE FOR THE SEICENTO (New York) is a new ensemble of singers and instrumentalists (winds, strings, percussion), who perform early 17th century music in an exciting and irresistible way. Members include Melissa Fogarty (soprano/baroque guitar), Beverly Au (viola da gamba), Michael Eisenberg (harpsichord), Mauricio Molina (percussion/recorder).

The musicians of NAKED FIFTH (Bloomington, IN) met while students at Indiana University and discovered a mutual love of the music of William Lawes. They include Dongmyung Ahn & Gesa Kordes (baroque violin), Mary Burke & Annalisa Pappano (viola da gamba), and August Denhard & Scott Witzke (theorbo).

COMMON GROUND (New York) performs early 17th century cantatas and songs. Their members include co-directors Jolle Greenleaf (soprano) and Lucas Harris (lute/theorbo/guitar) with Peter Kupfer & Dana Maiben (baroque violin), Keri Mikkelson (harpsichord & organ), Carlene Stober (viola da gamba), and Kirsten Blase-Heilman (soprano).

MASQUES (Toronto/Montreal) features Timothy Haig (baroque violin), Elin Soderstrom (viola da gamba), and Olivier Fortin (harpsichord), performing the music of Matthew Locke. They won the Dorian/EMA Recording Competition and will be recording their first commercial CD on the Dorian label in 2001.

LIAISON (Bloomington) offers lyrical and dramatic music by the French baroque composer Clerambault. They include August Denhard (theorbo), Yonit Kosovske (harpsichord) and Kevin Lay (viola da gamba) with Christine Howelett (voice) and Gesa Kordes (violin).

CHARIVARY (Boston) presents music of Marin Marais (featured in the movie "Tous les matins du monde," starring Gerard Depardieu). The members – Laura Jeppesen and Jane Hershey (viola da gamba) and Catherine Liddell (theorbo) -- are well-known artists, from their recordings and concerts with the Boston Museum Trio, Boston Camerata, other ensembles.

BAROQUEN VOYCES (Montreal) offers songs and cantatas of 17th and 18th century composers from England and Italy. Matthew White (countertenor), Chloe Meyer & Alex Kehler (baroque violin), Marguerite Schabas (baroque viola), and Amanda Keesmaat (baroque cello) began performing together while students at McGill University.

MIRABLE (San Francisco) has unearthed a beautiful cello sonata by the little-known composer Jean Zewalt Triemer, perform by Joanna Blendulf (baroque cello) and JungHae Kim (harpsichord). This duo won Honorable Mention in the Dorian/EMA Recording Competition.

VAN SWIETEN QUARTET (Boston) presents a much-loved string quartet by Franz Joseph Haydn, in the new light that is afforded by performing on classical instruments. The quartet members – Elizabeth Field & Kinloch Earle (classical violin), Joan Ellersick (classical viola) and Phoebe Carrai (classical cello) -- are known to music-lovers for their many concerts and recordings with other ensembles.

All of these ensembles are previously unrecorded.
